Old Barn

I live in a suburban area that's right on the edge of farm country and open land. This barn sits just off a 4-lane road, across from a light industrial park. It's an interesting mix of old and new. I've thought for a long time that this barn would make an interesting shot--I happened to catch it one day last week when the light was just right. I converted it into black and white--but the original picture is so devoid of color it's hard to tell the difference between the two versions. Still, I felt the b&w version was more "gritty".

Old Farm

Well...it's been a while since I posted a pic--longer than I wanted it to be (sorry about that, Ryan...). But, as usual, life got in the way. For now, I'm back...

A few weeks back I posted a sunset picture of an old farm that's on Interstate 55 about 90 minutes south of Chicago. This is a companion picture that I shot on the southbound trip a few hours before the sunset pic. I thought it was more interesting in B&W, and I liked how the elements of the picture sort of naturally arranged themselves according to the Rule of Thirds.

Farm at Sunset

I've been waiting a good long while to take this picture. This barn is on Interstate 55, about 90 minutes south of the Chicago suburbs where I live. I pass it every once in a while and keep hoping for the right conditions for a picture. Tonight, driving home from a dinner with family, it was finally the right conditions. I did only a little post-processing on this, but what you see here is what I saw tonight. It just goes to show that patience really pays off. This came out just like I wanted it to. Hope you enjoy.
